It’s an exciting time coming up in 2016 for fans of Beatrix Potter for it is the 150th Birthday of this most famous of author, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist.
Firstly it has recently been announced to mark this event, the Royal Mint has designed a new 50p coin with Peter Rabbit on it. This is an exciting time for the Lake District where Beatrix Potter lived and where visitors can still walk into her world at Hill Top her home and garden from 1905 until her death in 1943.
During the year there is set to be many celebrations, events and activities to mark this extremely talented woman who’s books and legacy is as strong and as popular today as ever with people from all over the world.
Hill Top, owned and managed by The National Trust, will have special guided tours on selected dates from spring into summer and during her Birthday month of July. Near Sawrey where Hill Top is located is a delightful, Lakeland Village. Acorss Lake Windermere and at The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness commemorative exhibitions and a new musical will be shown from June until September.
This is definitely the time for visiting the Southern Lake District whether you’re a Beatrix Potter fan or are wanting to find out more about her life and work.
