Grasmere – for a wonderful weekend break in the Lake District

Grasmere is a haven of peace and tranquillity, has low level paths, bodies of water to walk around as well as fells. When staying in Grasmere there’s no need to use the car again until going home, everything is on the doorstep.

The National Trust has a great selection ranging from 2 to 5 miles including lakeshore and fell walks, http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/allan-bank-and-grasmere/features/great-walks-in-grasmere. Although Grasmere is an ideal place for low level walks equally there are many high level, longer routes for the more adventurous. A fabulous one is a circular walk taking in six Wainwright Fells providing stunning views along every inch. View down to the breath taking Langdale Valley, walk alongside Easedale Tarn and view the full glory of Grasmere Village from above before finishing on one of the Lake District’s most famous fells Helm Crag, AKA The Lion & The Lamb as most people know it.

grasmere lake district

There’s not a shortage of places to eat and drink in Grasmere which is fast becoming the place to be for foodies in Cumbria. Very different to Cartmel which many say holds the title of number 1 culinary destination in the county, Grasmere has great pubs, lots of artisan cafes, independent restaurants and the highly regarded and newest restaurant within the Forest Side Hotel. With their innovative and ultra seasonal menus combined with the new fresh approach in cooking and a vast kitchen garden, it’s no wonder Forest Side was awarded a Michelin Star in its first year of opening.

Let’s not forget the most famous person to have ties with Grasmere, William Wordsworth. Even if art & literature isn’t your thing, a trip to Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum is really worth a morning or afternoon jaunt to. Any lovers of the Lake District will have an affiliation with him due to his obsession with it too.

Now where to stay. As with food offerings in Grasmere, the choice of accommodation is vast and of the highest quality. Raise View is a luxury bed & breakfast in Grasmere that offers style and elegance, has uninterrupted views of Helm Crag, delicious breakfasts and allows the freedom to go out and explore all the fabulous eateries Grasmere has to offer. Romantic Lake District cottage given stunning redecoration

Tucked away in part of the Lake District where peace and tranquillity rule and where there is still the chance to get away from it all is Shepherd’s Nook.
Shepherd’s Nook is a true rural retreat in the Kentmere Valley located around four miles north of Staveley making it ideal for exploring Windermere, Kendal and the equally as unspoilt area of Mardale and Haweswater.

It had just undergone a complete refurbishment for the 2017 season making it an even more enticing place to stay. The décor is stylish, tasteful with a huge focus on relaxation. Imagine being able to look out of uninterrupted countryside and fells through garden and grounds. Relax beside the centre focal point Aga and cook up some treats using the local produce available from nearby Staveley. The cottage is perfect for holidays or short breaks whatever time of the year being cosy and warm when required.

But why should anyone be shocked?
